Uncontrolled Diabetes – Wound heals with medical management of diabetes and diet control.
Varicose Veins – Wound heals with LASER treatment and compression dressing.
Peripheral vascular disease – Reason of wound is decreased blood supply to limb which occurs due to narrowing or blockade of blood vessels.
Common causes of blood vessel blockade are age related atherosclerotic narrowing or due to tobacco consumption in any form.
Initially patient presents with claudication pain. If not treated on time patient may develop gangrene which eventually needs amputation.
To save the limb prior diagnosis with colour Doppler is primarily required. For further treatment plan DSA angiography is necessary. On the basis of DSA angiography it can be decided if we can salvage the limb with angioplasty or stenting.
Angioplasty means opening of blood vessel using special balloons. Sometime even with balloon angioplasty vessels tends to recoil/re-occlude. In such cases stenting is required which means putting spring like structure within a blood vessel to keep it open.
